I’ve been tinkering with an idea for a magnetic chess set for a while. The idea came about after reading through chess strategy books and playing chess on my iPhone. I thought it would be a great idea to make a magnetic chess set that was perfectly flat, with the pieces being just magnets, instead of traditional pieces with magnet bottoms. It makes for easy chess play in cars and you can hold the board any way you like and pass it between each other. Each square has its chess annotation number. The board is a very thin aluminum container that doubles as storage.
The set you see here was made for my cousin’s son for Christmas, hence the personalized border.
